What to do? 2020-03-28

Plenty of information out there about COVID-19. Mainly more questions than answers still at this point. So while trying to be patient for better data and understanding, I'm doing my part to stay inside as I hope more and more people are.

But what else can we do?

When things were beginning to obviously turn into a “Shit, this is a whole world problem” situation, I couldn't help feeling like it was a movie with the unlikely protagonist working hard in their basement to find some answer or cure and emerge the hero. While that hero obviously isn't me, and is most certainly not a loner in a home basement like a movie might depict them to be, where does that leave us?

In my day job, I'm working on solutions to help therapists “see” their patients while not being able to meet. So I'm getting lots of satisfaction from that.

Between homeschooling and working 10-12 hour days, I ultimately feel pretty strapped to be doing much else…

But this pandemic has brought changes to our lives and has even highlighted what's truly important and lacking in our societies (and most certainly the longterm survival of our species) – so I feel like we have a chance to make sure we not only beat this virus, but also come out of this with more solidarity as a human race.

It's more than a chance, really.

It's an obligation.

We've seen that the problem was never a lack of money as $2 trillion dollars can be whisked out of thin air to keep us afloat. Rather, the real problems have been avoided all along simply so the elite can continue making more money until things become critical.

So those problems we had before we had this one, let's remember what we're really able to do to combat them, and demand that of our leaders instead of asking what they want us to ask, “Well how are we going to pay for that?”

I make software, mostly, and need to help.

What will you do to help?
